Abstract

Taking from the text of the play Midsummer night’s dream, the article outlines the importance of the Classical tradition in the English drama in the 16th and 17th centuries,
showing how William Shakespeare appropriates himself of ancient Greek and Roman cultures recreating them in great part of his production, keeping both technical features
of the Classical drama, and thematic resources which often are shifted from History into fiction.
