“QUEM NOS SALVARÁ DA MÍDIA?”: A REPRESENTAÇÃO DA PRIMAVERA SECUNDARISTA EM ARTIGO DA REVISTA ÉPOCA

Abstract

This article analyzes the representation promoted by media discourse on a movement that has been referred to as Primavera Secundarista (Secondary Spring) which took place in Brazil, in 2016. As a resistance movement led by high school students  against reform proposals and fiscal adjustments from Brazilian government, Secondary Spring mobilized young people from several parts of Brazil, who occupied more than 1000 schools throughout the national territory. Our goal, with this study, is to analyze and understand the strategies used by the media to represent this movement. The analyzed corpus was an opinion article published on Época magazine online page, which was signed by columnist Fernando Schüler and whose title is  "And who will save us from Ana Júlia?". In light of the theoretical-methodological construct of Critical Discourse Analysis (ADC), we are mainly based on the writings of Fairclough (2004) and Ramalho and Resende (2011). Thus, a qualitative study was conducted by focusing on representational meaning. As a result, it was possible to verify the construction of a disqualified image of the secondary spring movement.
