A vocação crítica da antropologia

Resumo

Nos últimos vinte ou trinta anos os antropólogos têm se voltado para um esforço de reflexão crescente sobre o caráter e o status teórico do conhecimento gerado no interior da disciplina. Neste sentido, o debate britânico sobre a Racionalidade (Wilson 1970; Hollis & Lukes 1982) e as discussões em torno do desenvolvimento de uma Antropologia Interpretativa nos E.U.A. (Geertz 1973 e 1983; Rabinow & Sullivan 1979) seriam, talvez, os exemplos mais famosos e paradigmáticos deste esforço, e sua repercussão no Brasil tem sido bem representada nas últimas reuniões da ABA. É exatamente com o objetivo de contribuir para a continuidade destas discussões que propusemos a organização deste Simpósio. A idéia seria discutir alguns desdobramentos deste debate a partir da seguinte questão: se, como sugerem os esforços mencionados acima, a assunção de uma consciência hermenêutica ”” isto é, o reconhecimento do caráter local e contextualizado do conhecimento produzido pelos antropólogos ”” é constitutiva do empreendimento antropológico, como equacionar esta situação com a preocupação; igualmente constitutiva da disciplina, com questões de validade?
