Abstract

The article explores the phenomenon of non-state actors violent and their impact on international security of the Latin American region at the beginning of the XXI century. It verifies the recent evolution of this phenomenon and methodological dimensions used in the study of these actors. Also, we propose a typology of non-state actors violent particularly relevant in the continent, especially: organized crime, militias, paramilitary forces, gangs / maras and youth. It appears transnational relevance of the phenomenon and its considerable impact on the erosion of the nation-state notion - particularly the monopoly of aspiration in the use of force and the principle of exclusivity. And prospective scenarios are placed in the final part of communication. It should be added that this research is carried out from the perspective of security studies and international politics.
