Abstract

This article intends to reflect on concepts of kinship theory and its implications from the dystopia created by Natalie Atwood in the book The Handmaid’s Tale. From Giliad's highly hierarchical society, one can think about the terms of kinship theory and the challenges that have been posed throughout the history of the discipline. The role of women, functionally marked in this society, also questions the place that motherhood occupies in Western society.
