Abstract

In this text by Marisa Pizza, originally a chapter from her book about the two Italians actor-authors Dario Fo and Franca Rame, the researcher presents and comments on the theater classes that Dario Fo held at the Paolo Grassi Academy (Civica Scuola di Teatro Paolo Grassi, Milan) in June 1996. Fo and Rame, throughout their careers, developed a form of theater characterized by a process that changes basing on the audience’s reactions. Even today, Fo is an essential reference point for actors and theater companies working in this direction, especially for those seeking a satirical dimension of the theatrical performance. Fo, in his lectures-theater, besides the discourse on the centrality of the audience during the staging, transmits his experiences and knowledge regarding linguistic experimentation and gestures, all elements that characterize his monologues strongly, unveiling, in parallel, the poetic dimensions of Fo Rame’s “theatrical machine”.
