Abstract

This article discusses the Law No. 14.874, of May 28, 2024, which regulates research involving human beings and establishes the National System of Ethics in Research with Human Beings, one of the most recent legal milestones in the field of scientific research in Brazil. The law has been marked by connections with entities and associations linked to the pharmaceutical industry since its presentation as a bill in 2015. Since then, the project has gone through several stages within the legislative sphere and has mobilized different sectors. The aim of this essay is to highlight key points along this path, analyzing the legislative procedures and the agencies involved up to the law’s approval, with a particular emphasis on its impact on research conducted in the fields of Social and Human Sciences, especially Anthropology.
